Portland, ME – The Salvation Army of Northern New England Division is standing by to deploy mobile canteen units, Salvation Army officers and trained volunteers to areas being impacted by Hurricane Florence. The Northern New England Division includes Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

The Salvation Army is already mobilizing to provide relief with the Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi (ALM) Division sending 17 people and five mobile feeding units to serve first responders and victims of Hurricane Florence. These teams began deploying yesterday to stage in Charlotte, North Carolina to respond immediately after landfall. The ALM Division is also currently assembling and notifying additional personnel to serve as an Incident Command Team (ICT) and two additional mobile feeding units that will be deployed post landfall Friday–Sunday.

After The Unspeakable, We Speak Hope

The Salvation Army helps after a disaster by providing food, drinks, shelter, emotional and spiritual care, and more to meet the needs of those affected by disaster. The relief efforts are made possible because of the generous donations received from the public. A financial contribution is the best way to help after a disaster and The Salvation Army uses 100% of all disaster donations in response to that disaster.

About The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, established in London in 1865, has been supporting those in need without discrimination for more than 135 years in the U.S. Nearly 25 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through a range of social services: food for the hungry, relief for disaster survivors, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, and opportunities for underprivileged children. For every dollar donated to The Salvation Army, 82 cents is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.
