Salvation Army Capital Region Corps Finds New Home
AUGUSTA, MAINE - The Salvation Army's Capital Region Corps previously at North Pearl Street has relocated to a new address at 36 Eastern Avenue and local leaders of the religious and charitable organization expect that the move will help them better serve those in need in the greater Augusta area.
The Capital Region Corps, a merging of The Salvation Army's Augusta and Waterville Corps, is commanded by Majors David and Karin Dickson who are assisted by Lieutenant Erin Smullen.
"We are thrilled about the location and layout of the building which will allow us to conduct programs and services for seniors, teens and families," said Major David Dickson. There is an office for clients to meet for social services assistance. Also, a Food Pantry will be set up to address hunger needs in the area."
Salvation Army leaders, along with the corps' Advisory Board, are inviting the public to attend the Capital Region Corps Open House on Thursday, March 20, 4-7 p.m. Tours of the facility as well as light refreshments will be provided.
The Salvation Army Capital Region Corps oversees the administration of programs and services in both Augusta and Waterville. The organization has ministered to the needs of residents since 1885 and values its charitable role in both communities.
In an effort to better serve the Waterville and Augusta communities The Salvation Army of Northern New England merged the two corps back in July, 2013. The Salvation Army, located at 189 Main Street in Waterville, offers general assistance such as clothing, food, utilities and more to residents in the area. In addition, The Salvation Army operates a Family thrift store in Waterville. The thrift Store provides quality clothing, furniture and other goods to the community at bargain prices.
