Governor Phil ScottMontpelier, Vermont –The Salvation Army will kick off its Annual Christmas Kettle Effort when Governor Phil Scott brings greetings in a brief ceremony to be held at the Vermont State house, Governor’s Ceremonial office, 115 State Street on Wednesday, November 21 at 11:30 am.

A Salvation Army Brass Ensemble will also be part of the festivities playing holiday carols.    The charitable organization expects to have more than 50 red kettles throughout the state on street corners and shopping areas through December 24th.

“I’m pleased to help the Salvation Army kick off this year’s kettle campaign – for 127 years their red kettles have signaled compassion for the needy during the Christmas and holiday season,” said Governor Scott. “Vermonters are generous people known for our willingness to help our neighbors, and the kettle campaign is one way to help those who need it most.”

However, they provide much more than atmosphere and nostalgia during the Christmas season.  Last year, funds donated at these kettles enabled The Salvation Army to provide services and programs to 29,181 men, women and children statewide during the holidays and throughout the year.  The Salvation Army provided food, clothing, utilities, emergency disaster aid, toys and gifts.   Also, children were provided the opportunity to attend The Salvation Army’s residential camping program, Camp Sebago.

Throughout the state of Vermont, The Salvation Army operates three centers that are staffed by full-time Salvation Army Officers and their teams. Each of these centers provides a wide variety of programming and social services for children, adults and seniors.
